At Cambridge Road Community Kindergarten, learning experiences are planned to meet identified learning needs of children/tamariki within a stimulating, friendly and co-operative environment. Teaching staff/kaiako plan and implement curriculum that assists all to grow up as competent, confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge they make a valued contribution to society. The value of play is recognised and children/tamariki are encouraged to explore.
Our most recent Education Review Office (ERO) report describes the curriculum at Cambridge Road Community Kindergarten as follows:
The planned programme reflects the principles of the Te Whāriki (The New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum), and is responsive to children’s interests, strengths and learning needs. Literacy, and in particular oral language and communication, is a strong and well-integrated focus of the kindergarten. Children enjoy books and stories, songs and poems, and share news as a group activity. There are many sustained and interactive conversations among children and adults. Children also have opportunities for imaginative play, art, music, mathematics, science and physical activity. Programme experiences are enriched by parent and community visitors and by excursions in the local and city area. High-quality equipment and resources are used to support the programme. Teachers support transition to school through their emphasis on children’s confidence and competence as independent, responsible learners. In addition, they provide assistance and information for parents.
